How it's used
While often used to describe physical mountains in formal writing, in spoken Cantonese it is almost exclusively used metaphorically for career, performance, or popularity. It carries a sense of achievement that is difficult to maintain, implying that what goes up must eventually come down. It is frequently paired with 處於 to describe someone currently occupying that high status.

Common mistake
Learners often confuse this with 高峰. While they are synonyms, 高峰 is more versatile and can describe traffic or periods of high activity, whereas 巔峰 carries a stronger connotation of the absolute highest point of success or quality.
