colloquialdaily actionspeople
How it's used
Often used in the reduplicated form 阻住 to emphasize the state of being an obstacle. It is extremely common to add the particle 晒 to indicate that the obstruction is affecting everyone or the entire space. It carries a slightly impatient tone when used to tell someone to move out of the way.
Examples
You are standing there blocking everything, move aside.
Related words
Common mistake
Learners often confuse 阻 with 擋. While both mean to block, 阻 is more about hindering progress or occupying space, whereas 擋 specifically refers to physically shielding or intercepting something, like blocking a blow or a view.
