How it's used
This term is almost exclusively used when referring to foreign law enforcement agencies, particularly the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. It is not a standard role within the Hong Kong Police Force, so it carries a slightly exotic or international connotation for local speakers. When describing local police on patrol, other terms like 巡警 are used instead.
