Modern usage almost exclusively favors 憤 over 忿 when expressing anger or resentment. While 忿 still appears in specific compound words, it is rarely used as a standalone verb in daily speech. Most native speakers will default to 憤怒 or 嬲 when describing the emotion of being angry.
