How it's used
While written Cantonese often uses 因為, in casual spoken conversation, it is extremely common to drop the first character and just say 為咗 or even just 係因為. When explaining a reason for an action, speakers frequently pair it with 先至 to emphasize that the action is a direct result of that specific cause.
Examples
Because it is raining, we are not going out.
Are you not going to work because you are feeling unwell?
Related words
Common mistake
Learners often confuse 因為 with 為咗. While both can mean because, 為咗 is primarily used to express purpose or motivation, such as doing something for the sake of someone or something, whereas 因為 focuses strictly on the cause or reason behind an event.
