Definition
A brake; a device used to slow down or stop a vehicle, transliterated from English.

How it's used
Derived from the English word brake, this term is the standard way to refer to the mechanism in daily Cantonese. While formal written Chinese uses 剎車, using 迫力 is much more natural when speaking to mechanics or friends while driving. It is strictly used for the mechanical device and not for the abstract concept of stopping or hindering progress.

Do not confuse this with the word 魄力, which refers to courage or drive in a person. They sound identical in many contexts, but their meanings are completely unrelated.
