How it's used
Using 阿嫂 is a respectful way to address or refer to an elder brother's wife. It carries a slightly warmer, more familial tone than the formal term 兄嫂. In some social circles, it can also be used as a polite, friendly term of address for a woman who is roughly the same age as one's elder sister-in-law, even if there is no actual blood relation.

Common mistake
Do not confuse this with 新抱, which refers specifically to a daughter-in-law from the perspective of parents-in-law. Using them interchangeably will cause confusion about the family hierarchy.
