Definition
To return purchased goods or merchandise to a shop for a refund or exchange.

How it's used
Retailers in Hong Kong are generally much stricter about returns than those in North America or Europe. Unless the item is clearly defective, shops often refuse returns simply because a customer changed their mind. Always check the store policy before purchasing, as many places only allow exchanges for a different size or color rather than a full refund.
Examples
The shirt doesn't fit, I want to take it back to return it.

Common mistake
Do not confuse this with 換貨, which specifically means exchanging an item for another one. If you use 退貨, you are explicitly asking for your money back.
