How it's used
Unlike the everyday word 亂, which is used freely in speech to describe anything from a messy desk to a chaotic schedule, 紊 is a bound morpheme that almost exclusively appears in formal or technical compounds. It carries a sense of systematic disorder or structural confusion rather than just physical clutter. You will rarely hear it outside of specific terms like 紊亂 or 紊流.
Examples
His room is very messy, he cannot find anything.
My mind is in a mess, I do not know what to do.

Common mistake
Do not use 紊 as a standalone adjective in spoken Cantonese. While it means messy, it is not a functional word on its own and will sound unnatural or archaic to native speakers.
