Definition
MTR; Mass Transit Railway, the railway company and rapid transit system of Hong Kong.

How it's used
Locals use this term to refer to both the company itself and the entire railway network. It is the standard way to talk about the system in daily life, replacing the older term 地鐵 which specifically referred to the pre-merger underground lines. Even though the system has expanded significantly, people still use this name for all lines including the former KCR routes.
Examples
Taking the MTR to work is very convenient for me.
Do you know what time the last MTR train is?

Common mistake
Avoid using the full name 香港鐵路有限公司 in casual conversation as it sounds overly formal or bureaucratic. Simply saying 港鐵 is sufficient in almost every context.
