How it's used
Used primarily in the reduplicated form 沓沓 to describe actions or speech that occur repeatedly or in a cluttered, overlapping manner. It carries a slightly negative connotation of being repetitive, redundant, or disorganized. While it shares the meaning of repetition with 重複, it is much more specific to the rhythm of speech or the physical piling up of items.

Common mistake
Do not confuse this with the literary idiom 紛至沓來, which is a fixed expression used in formal writing. In daily spoken Cantonese, 沓 is almost exclusively used in the reduplicated form 沓沓 to describe a repetitive action or sound.
