How it's used
Technically known as a stroke in calligraphy, this is rarely referred to by its formal name in daily life. Most people simply call it 點 when describing how to write a character. It is almost never used as a punctuation mark in modern Cantonese writing, where standard Western-style commas and periods are preferred.
