How it's used
Kwai Tsing is a portmanteau formed by combining the first characters of Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi. It is one of the few districts in Hong Kong that was carved out of a larger administrative area, specifically Tsuen Wan, to manage the rapid population growth and industrial development of the region. Locals almost always refer to it by its full district name when discussing administrative or community matters.
