How it's used
小姓 is a hyper-formal, archaic way to refer to one's own surname, rarely used in modern Hong Kong Cantonese. Native speakers almost exclusively use the simple verb 姓 followed by their surname. If someone uses 貴姓 to ask for your name, simply replying with 姓 followed by your surname is considered polite and natural enough.

My surname is (polite response to 貴姓)
Common mistake
Using 小姓 in casual conversation will sound extremely unnatural or like you are roleplaying a character from a period drama. Stick to the plain 姓 to avoid sounding pretentious or confused.
