How it's used
隧 is a bound morpheme that almost exclusively appears in the compound 隧道. It is rarely used on its own in modern spoken Cantonese, as speakers prefer the full two-character term to refer to any underground or underwater passage. While it can technically refer to a pedestrian subway, it is far more commonly associated with vehicular tunnels in Hong Kong.

Common mistake
Learners often confuse 隧道 with 地鐵, but 隧道 refers specifically to the physical structure of the tunnel itself, whereas 地鐵 refers to the subway train system.
