How it's used
While 喚 exists as a morpheme, it is rarely used as a standalone verb in modern spoken Cantonese. Most speakers prefer to use 嗌 or 叫 when they want to express the act of calling someone. It is mostly encountered in formal, literary, or compound terms like 召喚.
Examples
He called out a few times loudly, but no one answered him.

Common mistake
Learners often try to use 喚 as a direct substitute for 叫 in daily conversation, which sounds overly formal or archaic to native speakers. Stick to 叫 for everyday requests or summoning someone.
