How it's used
Using 道 as a verb for speaking is largely restricted to formal or literary contexts, often appearing in written prose or dramatic storytelling. In everyday spoken Cantonese, people almost exclusively use 講 or 話 to express the act of speaking. It sounds quite unnatural to use 道 in casual conversation unless you are intentionally mimicking a formal or archaic style.
Examples
He spoke out what was on his mind.
Can you speak the truth?

Common mistake
Learners often mistakenly use 道 as a direct substitute for 講 in daily life, but it carries a heavy, serious, or literary tone that makes it sound out of place in casual settings.
